What you need to know

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look landed on 27 August 2026, and it arrived twice. The showcase premiered on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET for subscribers worldwide, then went up free on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the official Grand Theft Auto VI site at 9 p.m. ET the same evening.

Netflix's own listing put the runtime at 26 minutes, which is why some outlets described it as "just under half an hour". Both Netflix and Rockstar attached the same technical note to it: the presentation was captured entirely from in-game footage running on PlayStation 5 — the base console, not a Pro or a development rig.

That line matters more than it looks. Every piece of public Grand Theft Auto VI material before this was cinematic: the December 2023 announcement trailer, and the second trailer that arrived in May 2025 alongside the news that the game had slipped out of its original window. An Extended Look is the first time Rockstar has shown the game as a thing you hold a controller for.

The distribution route was the other unusual part. A publisher premiering its own gameplay showcase on a streaming service, ahead of its own channels, is not how this genre of announcement normally works. The six-hour Netflix exclusivity window turned a video release into an event with a start time, and the internet behaved accordingly.

Rockstar followed the launch with a high-bitrate download — roughly 14 GB at about 70 Mbps — for anyone who wanted to look at the footage without YouTube's compression sitting between them and it. For a presentation whose entire argument is density of detail, that release says something about what Rockstar wanted people to actually see.

What the showcase did not do is move the date. Grand Theft Auto VI is still scheduled for 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version has been acknowledged but remains undated.
