What you need to know
An Extended Look is a curated showcase, not a design document. What follows is read off 26 minutes of footage, which is why this entry is filed as Confirmed rather than Official: the systems are visible, the numbers behind them are not, and anything here can still change before November.
The wanted system is the clearest reveal. Six stars return, but they are colour-coded — white, red, black — to signal how well police have actually identified you rather than only how hard they are looking. Identification is built from several inputs: cameras, what you are wearing, what you are carrying, and how recognisable your face is. Crimes also leave a marked area behind on the map, and re-entering it can put the heat back on rather than letting distance quietly wipe the slate.
Health is split into segments with partial regeneration, topped up by eating. Fridges work at home, convenience stores work on the road, which turns the map's small-business geography into part of the survival loop rather than set dressing.
Weapon carrying is limited. What you cannot hold lives in the boot of a car or back at a safehouse, so a job now starts with a loadout decision instead of a bottomless pocket. Taking a car is likewise something you do rather than something that happens: the footage shows breaking a window and working a slim jim as distinct approaches.
Conversation borrows directly from Red Dead Redemption 2. Holding L2 or LT opens contextual options with the people around you, and a morality indicator — a halo or a set of horns — tracks the pattern of what you choose. Combat borrows too, with a slow-motion targeting assist in the Dead Eye lineage and the same tight over-the-shoulder framing.
Character switching returns with the zoom transition Grand Theft Auto V used, and the footage goes further than the previous game: Jason and Lucia can be swapped mid-mission, and the two rob a store together. The Bonnie-and-Clyde framing the marketing has leaned on since 2023 turns out to be a structural one.
Away from missions there is a long tail of things to do: gym training that changes your build, the way San Andreas handled it; basketball; backyard wrestling; base jumping; scuba diving; kayaking; fishing with Cal; hunting alligators; scrolling an in-game social feed while lying on a beach; and petting dogs, or telling them off, as you walk past.
